Ok busy lady, this one is for you!
If you’re a busy mum like me, juggling multiple businesses, family responsibilities, and trying to find a moment for yourself, then you know the struggle is real. It often feels like there are never enough hours in the day, and our to-do lists seem to multiply faster than we can check off tasks. But fear not, because I’ve got your back! I love to socialise, host, do the house up, get Marlow to all his sports, walk Albus (the cockapoo) get to the gym, do my pilates, cook, go to the pub quiz…my god, the list is endless. OH and there’s the general house work and normal life to add on top!
But, mostly, I get it done, not because I’m super organised or the Virtual Assistant in me is in overdrive, but because I HATE missing out. So I have certain techniques to help me get to everything I want to do.
I wanted to share my top 10 time management tips that have helped me regain control and create some much-needed space in my life for balance and fun. So, let’s dive in and discover how you can do it too!
Prioritise with Purpose.
When everything feels important, it’s crucial to identify your top priorities. Take a moment to reflect on what truly matters to you, your family and your business. This clarity will guide you in making informed decisions and ensure that your time and energy are focused where they are most needed.
Embrace the Power of Planning.
As a Virtual Assistant I obviously love to plan but a GREAT plan is a game-changer ✨. Set aside time each week to plan your schedule, including dedicated blocks for work, family time, and self-care and if you’ve read my stuff before you know I’m a fan of colour coding it! Having this roadmap will help you stay on track and stop the chaos that often accompanies a busy lifestyle.
Learn to Delegate.
Why isn’t this number 1??? 😂
You don’t have to do it all! Delegate tasks that can be handled by others, whether it’s hiring a virtual assistant, involving hubby, the kids or other family members! Remember, asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness – still working on this one myself but every time I delegate I feel better and stronger! It becomes easier.
Efficiently Use Technology.
It’s out there, used it! Technology will streamline your tasks and save time. Explore productivity apps (I’m loving IFTTT at the moment), project management tools (Trello is 🔥) , and automation software that can simplify your workflow and free up valuable hours. Technology is your friend when managing the demands of your business and personal life.
Create Time Blocks.
Chunk your day into time blocks for specific activities and minimise distractions so you can increase focus. For example, allocate a block for uninterrupted work, another for family time, and even a block for self-care. Train yourself to be fully present in each block, giving your undivided attention to the task at hand. 🎨 Your colour coding will help here too!
Say No (Guilt-Free!).
Don’t be afraid to say no when your plate is already overflowing. It’s impossible to please everyone, and by saying no to nonessential commitments, you create space for what truly matters. Your time is valuable, and protecting it allows you to be more present and effective in other areas of your life.
Plan Time for Fun.
You know I’m SOO keen on this… never forget to enjoy life! Schedule time for activities you love. For me it’s trying new recipes, planning holidays, pilates, having people over or reading easy chic lit. Fun should be what it’s all about, right?
Maximise Productivity with Rituals.
I have rituals around my most important tasks. This can help you stay motivated and focused. Create a routine that signals to your brain that it’s time to dive into work. It could be lighting a scented candle, playing energising music, or simply taking a few deep breaths. These rituals can boost productivity and make tasks feel more enjoyable.
Leverage the Power of Outsourcing.
Consider outsourcing tasks that don’t require your personal touch or expertise. Virtual assistants, freelancers, or specialised services can help you delegate time-consuming activities, allowing you to focus on what truly moves the needle in your business and personal life.
Protect Your Well-Being.
Firstly remember to take care of yourself. Prioritise self-care activities that nourish your mind, body, and soul. Whether it’s practicing pilates, doing breathwork exercises, or spending quality time with loved ones, make time for activities that recharge your batteries and fill your soul. When you are at your best, you can give your best – end of! There are literally no other options!
